Eric's Brush Recommendations

Eric: Throughout my many years of teaching watercolor workshops there have been questions regarding my favorite brushes. I have found that the following provide the widest range of techniques with only three brushes. All are natural hair to provide maximum carrying capacity and stroke control.

DaVinci 1 1/4" flat (#5380)
This brush works well not only for broad initial washes but also comes to a nice chisel edge for refinement.

DaVinci #5 Squirrel Mop
This is a great brush for large, broad strokes; it has an unbelievable carrying capacity, yet with a flick of the wrist its round shape can be used for detail. There is no need to grab a smaller brush. This saves on the big brush/small brush alternation that can get in the way of the creative flow. It may be floppy, but all it needs is a little twist while painting.

DaVinci #12 Kolinski Series 35
This is my control detail brush. The preciseness of this extra long tipped Kolinski almost eliminates the need for a smaller brush. This is control at its maximum – all the way to signing my name. This brush is a favorite of many Disney artists.

These brushes have my signature on them; they are top quality at a reasonable price. I feel these brushes keep my painting process simple and uncomplicated; just three brushes provide a wide range of techniques – it would take many synthetics (collectively expensive) to fulfill the same requirements. I highly recommend them. Please contact us for a flier on the brushes or go to www.artmediaonline.com.
