BRUSHES: Eric Wiegardt Da Vinci Brush Set Series 35 Maestro Kolinski Red Sable-Long Tapered Round - size 12 round and # 6 Rigger brush (optional) Series 418 Russian Blue Squirrel Quill mop - size 5 Series 5830 Cosmotop Mix Bright - size 24 OR: 1 1⁄2” or 1" flat and a #12 round ( I prefer natural hair over synthetic) Click here for Eric's brush recommendations PAPER: Seven 22” x 30” sheets of 140lb. 100% rag cold pressed or rough watercolor paper All professional brands are fine. My favorites are Arches Rough and Fabriano Artistico Rough. PENCILS: HB pencil Large, soft lead sketching pencil, such as a Cretacolor #43001 or 43002, or General’s 6B Sketching Pencil or Progresso 8911/6B OTHER: John Pike Palette or a similar palette with a large undivided mixing surface Large synthetic sponge (4” x 7”) Sketch book (8 1/2” x 11” or larger) Photo references (bring plenty) Shallow quart size water container Painting board 23” x 31” for full sheets (I just loosely clip my watercolor paper on a watercolor backing board, such as Gatorboard) Four #4 bulldog clips or similar clips Masking tape Spray bottle Cotton hand towel (I like a diaper) Kneaded eraser Hairdryer (optional) PALETTE: Cadmium Yellow Pale or Light Suggested Reading: Watercolor Free and Easy by Eric Wiegardt It is optional to bring an easel and painting stool. We may paint on location, weather permitting. You may wish to outfit accordingly. Classroom instruction will be on tables provided. Optional: photos of paintings for personal critique |
