During a plein air workshop I taught on San Juan Island this summer, I came across a striking tree that caught my eye. It stood majestically on the edge of a cliff, its gnarled branches reaching out as if to protect the breathtaking view below. The tree’s rugged silhouette contrasted beautifully with the vibrant blue sky, making it appear as though it was standing guard over the landscape. I couldn’t help but be inspired by its resilience and the sense of serenity it brought to the scene.
